In 2016, we celebrated 80 years of Medicine at UQ. It was an auspicious occasion and a great opportunity to stop and reflect on our long and distinguished history of health and medical leadership and the features that make us one of the world's great medical schools.

The year was jam-packed with celebration, commencing with a landmark public lecture to showcase a boxed set of ancient Roman surgical instruments, gifted to UQ's School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry in memory of Dr Owen Powell (MBBS 1948) and culminating in a Gala Dinner for all alumni on Saturday 27 August 2016 at City Hall.

Throughout the year, we gave our alumni the opportunity to participate in our Family Tree Project to highlight the many families who have entrusted us to educate generations of family members to become doctors.
