The Faculty of Medicine Excellence Awards honoured outstanding researchers, teachers, clinicians and professional staff who contributed to the Faculty’s vision to make a global difference to health outcomes.
The annual awards have been running for five years, with this year marking the first time more than 100 nominations have been received.
The 2018 Faculty award winners are as follows:
Leader of the Year Award (academic) – Recognises an individual who thinks and works strategically, achieves tangible results and drives accountability.
Winner: Gita Mishra (SPH), who’s internationally recognised for her expertise in women's health and life course epidemiology.
Finalists: Karen Moritz (CHRC)
Leader of the Future Award (professional) – Recognises an individual who displays the qualities of a great leader and lead and inspire others to strive for excellence.
Winner: Tim Forrest (SBMS), whose ‘can do’ attitude and tireless work has made a remarkable difference in improving relationships and processes across the School.
Finalists: Keira Anderson, Christina Balmori, Georgia Jefferis (Faculty Office)
Leader of the Future Award (academic) – Recognises an individual who displays the qualities of a great future leader and who leads and inspires others to strive for excellence.
Winner: Brianna Fjeldsoe (SPH), who excelled across teaching, research and service with her leadership qualities evident and consistent across all three areas of academia.
Finalists: Dodd Denton (Ochsner), Kylie Tucker (SBMS)
Collaborators of the Year Award – Recognises teams who have embraced and demonstrated collaboration that has led to significant and impactful change and success for the Faculty.
Winner: NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in Stillbirth (MRI-UQ), for their national collaboration addressing the neglected tragedy of stillbirth through a priority-driven program.
Finalist: Research Ready Grant Program Team (RCS)
Innovators of the Year Award – Recognises teams who have embraced and can demonstrate examples of innovation that have resulted in significant tangible improvements and changes that have led to success for the faculty.
Winner: PAH Telehealth Team (Centre for Online Health, CHSR), for their innovative approach to providing rural and remote support through video conferencing, with hundreds of patients being seen during these various services each year.
Service Excellence Award – Recognises teams who show an outstanding and significant contribution to delivering excellence in service to students, staff or the wider community.
Winner: Research Partnerships Team (Faculty Office), for facilitating interactions between UQ Researchers and their external industry and government partners and managing research contracts and agreements.
Finalists: SBMS Teaching Lab Services, SBMS Teaching & Assessment Team (combined)
