How to accept your MD offer FAQs
Do I need to pay AUD$14,000 and AUD$3,060 to reserve my spot in the program?
Once you have satisfied all conditions and accepted your offer, your acceptance will be acknowledged and if a place remains available in the program, you will be issued an invoice with a firm deadline by which to finalise your payment. The invoice will include the total of both the $14,000 tuition deposit and $,3060 Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) fee. Your place will be confirmed once we have received your full payment and we have issued your Confirmation of Enrolment.
You may elect to arrange your own OSHC instead of opting for UQ to arrange this for you. Please refer to your offer letter for information about approved OSHC providers and OSHC requirements if choosing to arrange your own policy.
My letter includes a condition that I need to provide more documents. What do I do?
Some applicants may have applied before they have graduated with a key degree. This is fine, but the UQ International Admissions team needs confirmation that you have finished your current studies before your acceptance can be processed.
Some applicants may need to provide other final documents before their acceptance can be processed e.g. certified copies/eQualifications.
All offer conditions must be met before your acceptance can be processed. The MD program is a quota program and entry is highly competitive, therefore, UQ is not able to confirm that a place is available until all conditions are met and your acceptance and deposit (tuition and OSHC) is received. UQ does not able to “hold” places for students waiting for admissions test results or final transcripts.
If you need to wait for your conditional documents to be finalised, you are free to provide the acceptance/payment forms early. However, your acceptance and payment will only be processed once all conditions have been met and acceptance documentation received.
I will sit my English/GAMSAT/MCAT test or receive my results after the 21-day acceptance period listed on the offer letter. What should I do?
We understand that the English, GAMSAT and MCAT test arrangements have been impacted this year by the COVID-19 pandemic. If you are due to receive your English/GAMSAT/MCAT results after the 21-day acceptance period, we ask that you accept your conditional offer within the 21 day period. We will note your acceptance and keep your application active to allow you to submit your test results, when available. Please note, UQ is not able to confirm your place in the MD program until you have met all offer conditions.
When you receive your test results, please save a PDF copy of your GAMSAT Statement of Results or MCAT Score Report (with the 16-digit verification code) and upload to the Online Application (OLA) portal.
You can find the GAMSAT/MCAT requirements here.
I need to provide official academic transcripts to meet the offer conditions. What should I do?
If you have already graduated, you can order an official transcript to be delivered electronically directly from your institution to UQ at applicationstatus@uq.edu.au. Many institutions offer electronic transcript delivery services via secure online platforms (e.g. My eQuals, TranscriptsNetwork, eScrip-Safe). Transcripts delivered through this method are not required to be certified or notarised.
Alternatively, if electronic transcripts are not available, or if you already have a hard copy of your final official transcript, you will need to have the transcript certified or notarised before uploading to the Online Application (OLA) portal. In Australia, you can contact a Justice of the Peace or a Commissioners for Declarations (who must provide their registration number). If you are located overseas, you can contact a Notary Public or a lawyer. Please refer to your offer letter for more information on document certification.
If you apply through an authorised agent, you may submit the transcript and relevant academic documents to your agent to certify.
What is OSHC, and can I organise it myself?
International students are required to have coverage with an Australian government approved OSHC provider. UQ uses Allianz for OSHC, but students can use a different OSHC approved provider if they choose. Please refer to our Health Insurance webpage.
When do I apply for a visa?
After being confirmed for a place, you will receive a Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) document from UQ. You can then apply for your visa. Instructions on how to apply can be found here.
If I am confirmed for a place and then decide not to attend, will I be able to get a refund?
If you submit payment for the tuition deposit and Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) and decide not to attend:
-
For OSHC, if you cancel prior to arrival in Australia, you can contact your OSHC provider directly to request a refund.
-
For the tuition deposit, you can submit a refund request with a formal withdrawal request. You may be charged a cancellation/administrative fee depending on the timing of your withdrawal prior to classes commencing. The offer letter will include further instructions on refunds: Table 1 -Cancellation of enrolment charges for commencing international students.
Once payment is received by the University, what are the next steps?
Upon accepting your place and receiving your payment, please allow 10 days for confirmation of whether a place has been allocated to you. The University will not process payment unless a place is available.
You will receive an activation link with instructions from UQ IT via email to activate your UQ account. This will expire after a certain time, so you should activate your account as soon as possible.
The account will include your UQ student email address, which is the official communication method for the University of Queensland.
As an incoming student, what requirements do I need to provide before I arrive?
UQ MD students have a range of annual program requirements that must be completed, or kept up-to-date each year. When you received your offer, it included a welcome pack that has a checklist for when to complete each of these requirements.
The Faculty of Medicine will keep in touch with you along the way to make sure you are completing/submitting these before you arrive.
How will COVID-19 impact semester 1 2022?
The short answer is, we don’t yet have a definitive answer on this. However, we can confirm that our leadership team is working incredibly hard on a proposal that will enable international medical students to safely enter Australia and study with us in person, on campus in Brisbane. We have created a new page for commecing students. As soon as we have information we can share, we will be updating this page and communicating with our applicants.
