Project Background and Outcomes

Current Situation

There is a need to develop and implement a proactive strategy for identifying and attracting quality candidates for admission into higher degree research programs within the Faculty.  Whilst the Faculty will continue to attract students on the basis of its reputation, there is more that can be done to scout for talent proactively both within UQ’s undergraduate and graduate cohorts as well as at other institutions both locally and internationally.  Across the Faculty, there are a number of existing initiatives that serve to contribute to the attraction and retention of research higher degree students (e.g. Fellowship Enhancement Scheme; Scholarship top-ups; Travel Assistance and Biostatistics advice; and coursework support).

Expected Outcomes

  1. Develop a strategy for identifying and attracting quality candidates for admission to higher degree research programs within the Faculty. Strategy to include or build on existing work already underway:

    a. Faculty-wide initiatives
    b. Initiatives that are more suited to particular organisational units

  2. Development of an implementation action plan for embedding the strategy including the rollout of new initiatives, embedding new ways of working, communicating with students.
