FameLab Australia Finalist

4 Jul 2024

UQ’s Dr Graeme Mattison has been selected to compete in the FameLab Australia 2024 Final in Perth later this year.

He will join 11 other early career researchers and up-and-coming science communicators who represent universities and research institutions across Australia.

Dr Mattison was recognised for his work on digital health, wearables and predictive analytics, with a particular focus on using smartwatches to predict infections.

Foundation for the WA Museum’s FameLab Project Manager, Wayne Lubbe, said the standard of science communication was excellent again this year.

“FameLab is truly achieving its objective of uncovering exceptional talent in sharing complicated science research with the general public in easy-to-understand and engaging presentations,” Mr Lubbe said.

All finalists will receive further masterclass training and will travel to Perth in September for an immersive science communication workshop hosted by Forrest Research Foundation.

The FameLab Australia Final will be held on 26 September 2024, both live on stage and live-streamed.

Tickets are now on sale.
