Student Immunisation Record

Before commencing clinical placements at a hospital or health service, it is mandatory to provide evidence of immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases. Participation in your placement will only be permitted once l your immunisation record has been verified and approved by the UQ Immunisation Record Team.

To demonstrate your immunity, you are required to submit a Student Immunisation Record that has been completed by a registered General Medical Practitioner (GP). The specific form you will need to complete will depend on the program you are completing. For example, Doctor of Medicine students need to complete Student Immunisation Record (Form B).

Your completed Student Immunisation Record should be submitted via your my.UQ portal. Commencing Year 1 MD students will receive a request to upload these documents in January. All other students and updates will receive a new request, as required.

COVID-19 & Influenza

COVID-19: National boards, including AHPRA, “strongly encourage all registered health practitioners and students (particularly those undertaking placements in various practice settings) to have the full COVID-19 vaccination course, as scheduled, unless medically contraindicated.” Vaccination against COVID-19 is also recommended by Queensland Health.

From 2024, evidence of COVID-19 vaccination is not a requirement for entry into the Doctor of Medicine Program and will not be collected at the commencement of the Program.

Certain placement providers continue to mandate COVID-19 vaccination as a prerequisite for entry into their facilities during student placement. The specific number of doses required will be determined by the mandates set by the placement provider at the time of the placement. Students participating in clinical placements or attending clinical sites are expected to comply with the COVID-19 vaccination requirements of the placement provider at the time of their placement. These requirements should align with the recommended COVID-19 vaccine does by the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI).

IMPORTANT TO NOTE: Currently, Mater Health requires students to have two documented doses of an approved COVID-19 vaccine. If this requirement remains in place for 2025, Students who are not vaccinated against COVID-19 will be unable to be allocated to the West Learning Community. The Faculty will contact relevant students prior to the commencement of Year 2, to collect evidence of COVID-19 vacciantion, if required.

Influenza: To ensure the safety of both healthcare workers and patients it is strongly recommended for healthcare workers to receive an annual influenza vaccination. In certain clinical settings, such as aged care facilities, Influenza vaccination may even be compulsory. Additionally, individuals working with children in schools and early childhood education and care are strongly recommended to receive an annual Influenza vaccination. Queensland Health also endorses and recommends Influenza vaccination as a preventive measure.
