Presented by Dr Jatin Patel, Lab Head, Vascular Regeneration Group, The University of Queensland Diamantina Institute

Please note time change to 12-1pm and venue change to 50-T203

Dr Jatin Patel is the Lab Head for the Vascular Regeneration Group at The University of Queensland Diamantina Institute. He is currently ARC DECRA fellow and has previously held a prestigious fellowship from the National Heart Foundation of Australia. His research focusses on defining the vascular resident stem cell pool during homeostasis and disease using murine and human model systems. The research from his team has led to ground breaking research, with the discovery of an Endovascular Progenitor (EVP) that governs an endothelial hierarchy and drives de novo neovascularisation in the adult circulatory system, independent of angiogenesis mechanisms. This work over the years has been published in high impact journals such as Circulation, Nature Communications, Cell Reports and Stem Cells. His discoveries have also led to three patents being filed that are now being developed into a commercial vascular stem cell therapy product to treat peripheral vascular disease.
