International opportunities for learning

Offshore clinical schools enable students in New Orleans (USA) and Brunei, (South East Asia) to benefit from UQ’s expertise and teaching excellence. This includes opportunities for graduate and student clinicians to work with internationally renowned researchers and boost the synergy between research and clinical care.

Spotlight on Ochsner

The School of Medicine has partnered with the Ochsner Health System, based in the southern United States city of New Orleans.

The venture offers US students the opportunity to complete a medical degree, studying in Australia and the US.

Each year, UQ recruits medical students, who are either US citizens or US permanent residents, for the UQ-Ochsner Program. The four-year Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery degree, allows students to spend the first two pre-clinical years of study at UQ's Queensland campuses and the final two years of clinical study at UQ's Ochsner Clinical School.

In 2010, the UQ School of Medicine gained Australian Medical Council accreditation for the unique partnership with the Ochsner Health System, emphasising the school’s status as Australia's Global Medical School.
