NOTES ON THE WORKSHOP
Following the Medical Dean’s Update we are delighted to invite you to take part in a workshop/discussion:

Encouraging Professionalism and Supporting Professional Identity
development in our future doctors at UQ.

In this interactive workshop Professor Kirsty Foster OAM, Director of the Office of Medical Education, who was a member of the Medical Deans of Australia and New Zealand (MDANZ) Professionalism Working Group, will briefly outline the recommendations of the recently released MDANZ report: Professionalism and professional identity of our future doctors.

We will then explore how the Report’s recommendations apply in our own context, focusing on our priorities for action here at UQ.  Discussions will take place in the four domains:

  1. definitions of professionalism;
  2. support through teaching and learning;
  3. assessment of professionalism;
  4. remediation.

When you register for this event, you will have the opportunity to choose to join a discussion group focussing on one of these areas, if you would like to be allocated to a particular topic.

This will give us the opportunity to

  • consider how we, as a medical education community, are performing in relation to the recommendations of the MDANZ Professionalism Working Group, and
  • explore possible immediate and medium-term plans to ensure the best outcomes for our students, and the community, through the education we provide.

Click here to find a copy of the MDANZ Report: Professionalism and professional identity of our future doctors.  This will be useful pre-reading if you have time - there is an Executive Summary on pages 1-3!
