This project aims to elucidate when, where and how neural activity begins in the developing cerebral cortex. We employ genetically-encoded calcium indicators to visualise neural activity in live mammals using wide-field microscopy. Candidates with a background in neuroscience and/or computer science would be ideal to focus on the physiology and/or modelling of patterned activity in the developing brain.
