Summer Research Program scholars receive a grant of $3,000, with scholars selected based on academic merit, motivation for participation in the program, and the enrolling unit’s nomination. Projects run for 6 weeks between 13 January and 21 February in 2025 and involve 20 to 36 hours per week, as advertised.

Student eligibility

Due to staff workloads at a time of organisational change in January 2025, we cannot make any conditional offers this year (i.e., graduating students who would not have confirmation of their 2025 enrolment by early November.)

Please refer to the UQ Summer & Winter Research Program page for more information, including the benefits for scholars and supervisors, and full eligibility and scholarship details.

Enrolled medical students cannot participate as the Summer program overlaps with MD academic timetable commitments. Alternate options may be available via the Student Research Portal.

Projects

View projects available in the current Faculty of Medicine. Please note that the two faculties of Medicine and Health and Behavioural Sciences will come together as a new faculty in 2025. As planning and project offers occur throughout second half of 2024, they are being managed separately by two faculties for the 2025 Summer Research Program.

Please take note of where projects are located and any additional site requirements, and the instructions about contacting the supervisor prior to applying.

These projects might be located at multiple sites at St Lucia, Dutton Park and Herston campuses or hospitals in Brisbane, Ipswich, Toowoomba or elsewhere in SE Queensland.

Some projects are located at clinical sites and may require students to meet additional OH&S requirements e.g. evidence of vaccinations, Blue Cards, inductions or other governance requirements.
