Rural health scholarships

Rural Health Scholarships provide much needed financial assistance to regional and rural medical students, easing study and living costs for our future doctors.

Support for students in financial need

Financial circumstances should no longer be a barrier to studying medicine at UQ. Our vision is to be able to provide financial support to all students who need it.

Our Rural Health Scholarships provide financial support for students who are based rurally and interested in pursuing rural medicine.

Thanks to incredible donor support, we were able to establish and award the inaugural Rockhampton Rural Health Scholarship in 2022. In 2024, we will establish and award these scholarships in Toowoomba and Bundaberg, and continue fundraising for rural medical students in Hervey Bay.

Building Queensland's rural workforce

Our Rural Clinical School provides exceptional medical education and opportunities for students across the four Regional Clinical Units in Bundaberg, Hervey Bay, Rockhampton and Toowoomba.

As well as easing students’ study and living costs, Rural Health Scholarships will encourage and support medical students to continue training in their chosen region, in turn building Queensland’s rural medical workforce and leading to improved patient outcomes and medical breakthroughs now and into the future.

A donation in support of Rural Health Scholarships will:

  • Directly support medical students in financial need, easing the burden of study and day-to-day living costs;
  • Encourage medical students who wish to pursue a career in rural medicine;
  • Help address the shortage of doctors in rural and remote Queensland communities.

All gifts make a difference and together we can have incredible impact. Thank you.
