You need to be able to demonstrate that you:

  • Have completed some research experience
  • Have completed an approved university degree
  • Can meet the English language requirements

CRTP application procedure

Applications should be submitted by 5pm (AEST) 23 November 2022 to med.adr@uq.edu.au and must include:  

  1. Statement of research career intent (500 words). Explain why the applicant wants to undertake PhD/MPhil training through the UQ/Metro North Health CRTP and provide an indication of areas of research interest, identify your supervisory team and articulate research career aspiration;  

  1. Research Plan. Provide a two-page proposal describing, in plain English: the proposed research objectives, basic methodologies and expected outcomes; the importance of the topic and the potential significance of the research; and the support needed for the research program (e.g., access to resources, infrastructure, any additional expertise to achieve the proposed outcomes). 

  1. Details of applicant’s clinical training/development program: 

a) For doctors, brief details of the applicant’s vocational training program, including dates and location of each placement; end dates; and details of the College training committee (provide email contact for the lead College administrator);  

b) For nurses, midwives, and allied health practitioners, provide details of plans to train for advanced practice, if appropriate; 

  1. Academic CV, including GPA attained from prior degrees and details of any research experience and how findings were reported or disseminated (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, presentations at a meeting – poster or short talk);  

  1. A brief letter from the applicant’s current clinical training supervisor or line manager (as appropriate) that confirms the candidate is making satisfactory progress in clinical training and experiential learning; 

  1. Two referee reports including from an independent academic referee able to comment on the applicant’s potential for completing a PhD/MPhil (as appropriate);  

  1. A statement* from the applicants proposed PhD/MPhil Principal Advisor outlining:  

  • Why you support this applicant? 150 words.  
  • Strengths of the research environment that the applicant will experience. 150 words. 
  • Strengths of the applicant’s proposed advisory team. 150 words. 

* Your PhD/MPhil advisor should address their comments to the areas in the UQ Graduate School Higher Degree by Research Scholarship Matrix (DOCX, 26.5 KB). This matrix will be used to score your application.

CRTP selection process

Selection panel will be comprised of qualified representatives for Metro North Health and UQ. 

The selection committee will base its assessment on applicant’s statement of career aspiration, assessment of PhD/MPhil readiness, academic CV, and referee reports.  

Readiness for PhD/MPhil program will be assessed using the UQ Graduate School Higher Degree by Research Scholarship Matrix.  

Short listed applicants will be invited to panel interview on 6 December 2022.  

Interviews can be conducted either in person or virtual [Zoom], if required. 

Offers of a place in the 2023 CRTP intake will be made to candidates by mid-December. 

Successful candidates must then complete the UQ Graduate School online application by 29th January 2023*. 

*, if this deadline is not met program commencement date and stipend will be delayed to 1 July 2023. 

 

I have received a letter of offer for the CRTP - 2023 Intake, what happens now?

Congratulations!  

There are a number of necessary documents that you will need to compile and provide to UQ Graduate School, per the online application process for PhD/MPhil programs.  

Please follow all instructions provided by the UQ Graduate School. This process must be completed by 29 January 2023 - if this deadline is not met your PhD/MPhil commencement and stipend will be delayed.  

You will need to upload the following documents with your online application: 

  • Academic curriculum vitae (CV) – per your CRTP application 
  • Academic transcript 
  • Degree certificate 
  • English language documents 
  • Passport 
  • Other documents 

UQ will accept scanned copies of original documents, but you will have to keep all original documents for the duration of your studies. 

Upload all documents as PDFs and name your files like this:  

  • LASTNAME_firstname_document-name.pdf 

If any of your documents is in a language other than English, you will need to send both the original document and an official translation.
