The Francis Baron Burnett Simulation Centre provides innovative healthcare education and training in a state-of-the-art facility

Purpose built simulated emergency bays, operating theatres and hospital wards provide a safe environment for healthcare students and professionals to engage in high and low fidelity simulated learning activities.

Innovative and engaging simulation courses

Simulation courses and activities have been designed to help healthcare students and staff learn clinical skills, techniques and best practice in a safe and supportive environment. Current courses target requested procedural skills, integrated clinical management, communication and teamwork.

State-of-the-art facilities

The FBBC has been purposefully designed to enable flexibility in setting-up scenarios or activities to mimic various healthcare settings. An extensive range of high-fidelity mannequins, part-task trainers and other simulators are available for use to help support courses and activities. Video facilities are available for real-time and post-session debriefings.

Healthcare simulation curriculum design

The FBBC simulation learning team has vast experience in the design and delivery of simulation learning in healthcare. In addition, our team has clinical experience in nursing and medicine and academic experience in teaching and learning within the tertiary sector.

The Francis Baron Burnett Clinical Simulation Centre is very fortunate to be supported with funds from The Ford Burnett Charitable Foundation. The Foundation was established by Ms. Cynthia Burnett in memory of her father, the late Dr Frank Burnett. Dr. Burnett practiced medicine in Queensland for 57 years and expressed a desire for his estate to be used in a tangible way. Ms. Burnett felt that providing increased educational opportunities that would benefit the wider community would have appealed to her father and the perfect project would be to support the UQ Clinical Skills Teaching Unit based at Greenslopes Private Hospital.

The Francis Baron Burnett Simulation Centre is a joint initiative of the University of Queensland and Greenslopes Private Hospital

This project was made possible due to funding provided by Health Workforce Australia, an Australian Government Initiative.
